Mass shootings used to bring me to the brink of tears. The useless, senseless slaughter knocking the wind from my lungs and leaving me in utter dismay. I don’t get that feeling any more. Now, I am furious with anger. Oh, I still feel extreme remorse for the family and loved ones of the victims. I agonize for the lives ripped from our plane of existence, but the anger is overwhelming.

How do we as a civilized society allow people suffering from severe mental disorders to acquire tools of killing and then allow them the opportunity to use them? In 2019 Ira Glick MD. from Stanford Medicine published his study which overwhelmingly supported the theory that mass shooters suffer from severe psychiatric disorders. His study of 35 mass shooters determined that 32 of them clearly suffered from psychiatric disorders.

We know this, yet we do nothing. Our elected officials blame the tools and call for legislation and rules that predominantly already exist. They are unwilling to address the real problem – the lack psychiatric treatment and care.

Veterans Against Gun Violence is committed to getting access to psychiatric care for Americans in need. We are and have been lobbying our elected officials for the last 5 years, stressing the importance of this problem.

Please help us in the fight by volunteering https://www.vetsagainstgunviolence.org/support-us

Or by donating so our army of volunteers have the resources to fight on your behalf.
