In a 7 – 2 vote the Supreme Court ruled that sellers of “Ghost Guns” must serialize their kits, require background checks and restrict the sale to those over 21 yrs of age.
We are not convinced that serial numbers stop or deter violence, but we are sure that doing what we can to keep guns out of the hands of children is a very sound policy as is requiring background checks.
VAGV is a staunch supporter of the 2nd Amendment. Everyone of our Board of Directors has fought on foreign soil to defend it, but that doesn’t mean that we believe “everyone” should have a gun. We must do what we can to keep guns away from children. We must also do our best to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally deranged, the radicalized, the misogynistic abusers.
This Biden era challenge to easily assembled “kit guns” is a win for America, but we can do better. No criminal should be able to buy a gun because their Background Check doesn’t come back with in the legally delineated 72hr window. A recent FBI study showed that 25% of guns found at crime scenes were legally purchased by criminals who would not pass a background check but were allowed to purchase a gun because the 72hr window for their background check to be denied, was exceeded.
We must do better! Our elected officials must be held accountable to enforce and administer the safeguards that have been put in place to help keep guns out of the hands of criminals.
